Publishing opportunities are rare, especially for students, so when you are offered an opportunity to submit research for consideration in one of the following research journals, work hard to create a piece of writing deserving of that honor. Seeing your work recognized by peers is not only an honor but also a way to demonstrate to future employers or graduate schools that the research undertaken during an academic experience was taken seriously and developed at a level that merited publication in the appropriate university peer-reviewed journal.

Undergraduate Creative Writing Magazine
The IU Southeast Review, known to students as “The Review,” is our undergraduate creative writing magazine.
The Review was named “Literary Magazine of The Year” by the Indiana Collegiate Press Association in 2025.
Submissions and editorial staff participation are open to currently enrolled IUS undergraduate students regardless of academic major. The Review publishes poetry, short stories, flash fiction, drama, creative nonfiction, graphic novel excerpts, and other creative works. In addition, the Review has a long tradition of being an intersection for other forms of creative output such as photography, artwork, graphic design, and with the recent addition of QR codes, musical compositions and performances. Students engaged in creative work of any kind are encouraged to explore the magazine and submit their work.
Published once a year, our regular submission cycle begins with the first day of classes in the fall and runs through September 30th.
Submission guidelines can be found in the back of the magazine, copies of which are free to students and available at public racks in Knobview Hall, The breezeway of the IUS Library, and the Physical Sciences building.
Queries regarding submission or editorial participation should be sent to iusoutheastreview@gmail.com or to Tom O'Neal, Faculty Advisor, joneal@iu.edu.
