Veteran (must be 10%+ disabled) and child must be Indiana residents

As an Indiana resident you may qualify for this award regardless of your age. This benefit is only for children of veterans that lost their lives or received their disability as a result of their military or civil service, or who received the Purple Heart or are MIA, and pays for 124 credit hours at the undergraduate rate at certain Indiana public universities. The veteran must also have been an Indiana resident for at least 3 consecutive years.

Students must always submit an in-house worksheet each semester they are requesting certification with the VA, found at . 

Making Changes in Enrollment without notifying the Veteran Services School Certifying Official (SCO) can result in penalties.  IU Southeast must submit enrollment changes to the VA. Dropping classes without notification may result in a financial debt with the VA or the school.

Getting an I (incomplete grade), that you complete in a subsequent semester will not be counted toward that semester's credit for certifying eligibility.

Receiving a FN or a FNN grade for stopping or never attending, your classes, VA benefits will not cover classes. The SCO must report your last day of attendance. Students will be required to pay back benefits to the VA from the last day of attendance, and may owe the school tuition and fees

Reporting Changes in Program of Study (Changing Majors) is mandatory. You must let the SCO know when you are making changes to your degree program plan. They will report your new status to the VA.

Monthly Verifications are required for most benefits. When requested (either by text, email, or phone, you must verify your monthly enrollment to the VA. If you fail to verify monthly, you will not receive your benefits. For more information about Verification of Enrollment go to . 

In standard quarter or semester, VA measures training as follows:

12 credits or more are full-time

9-11 credits are ¾ time

6-8 credits are ½ time

1-5 credits are ¼ time

Full-time for graduate training programs is determined by the educational institution. If the school has questions regarding how to determine training time for undergraduate programs that are 13 or 14 semester or quarter hours in length, or for non-standard length terms, they should contact the Education Liaison Representative (ELR) of jurisdiction for more information.
